SeaACT Dandenong Term 4 program 2015

The pilot SeaACT program in Dandenong was a great success with 37 young people in total participating in the program. SeaACT was held across 2 theatre spaces; The Walker Street Gallery, and with in-kind support, the Drum Theatre in Dandenong.

It was fantastic to have students from a range of schools including; Killester College, Noble Park English School – Noble Park and Hampton Park Campus, Lyndale High, Dandenong High, Noble Park Secondary College, AMES Dandenong and Hampton Park Secondary College.

With an average of 17 students at each session, Melbourne Playback Theatre Company facilitator, Rachael Dyson McGregor was in brilliant form facilitating the playback theatre program.  Students moved very quickly through her guidance of still moments and postcards, to practicing further detailed moments and longer stories.  Students exceeded expectations, and by the final workshop their personal growth and confidence was soaring!

The End of Year Concert provided students with a fabulous opportunity to perform in front of their parents and peers at the Walker Street Gallery with lots of fan fare present!  With both encouragement from the Drum Theatre and students, we hope to return again in 2016 to deliver more of SeaACT!!

Eight of the students had participated in the SeaACT program previously and remaining students were new to the program. The two main ways the students found out about the program were from a SEAAC worker visiting their school and Facebook.

THANK YOU to Creative Victoria for their financial support. We would also like to thank our supporters, the Drum Theatre in Dandenong for their in-kind venue, local schools, SeaACT participants and the community for their support and attendance at our final show.
