L2P program coordinated by Southern Ethnic Advisory and Advocacy Council (SEAAC) in partnership with the City of Monash and City of Kingston is a VicRoads Learner Driver program for learner drivers aged 16-20 years old who face significant barriers to gain 120 mandatory driving hours on the road.
The program is a community-based volunteer program designed to provide access to driving practice on public roads for learner drivers under the supervision of a fully licensed driver.
By increasing the time of supervised driving to 120 hours, crash rates can be reduced by up to 30 percent

How it works?

The Volunteer Mentors will be required to register to the program, complete mandatory checks, an interview and a VicRoads Training.
The Learner Driver will have up to 7 professional lessons throughout the mentoring program. This is to evaluate the driving of the Learner Driver before they are mentored by the volunteer.
The Learner Driver and Mentor will drive in a sponsored, fully maintained and serviced vehicle which has a minimum four star ANCAP safety rating, in the local council areas once a week. This will contribute to the Accumulation of 120 hours of driving Experience for the Learner Driver.
This program will make the municipality a safer place to work, rest and play.

Mentoring, and how it helps the community

Mentoring is a personal developmental relationship in which the volunteer mentor empowers the young person with practical driving tools as well as social tools to assist them to believe in their potential both in their own life and in the community.
Mentors benefit from giving back to the community, and gain a sense of satisfaction in making a positive impact in the young persons life, as well as in the community.
The L2P– Learner Driver Mentor Program is the largest youth mentor program in Victoria.
